A DNS zone means one domain (e.g. example.com) along with all of its subdomains. Each separate domain counts as one zone.

A DNS query is a request to our DNS servers for information about your domain (for example, when someone visits your website or when an email server looks up your MX record). We measure DNS queries in millions per month.  As a reference: A small business website with ~10,000 monthly visitors usually generates around 1–2M DNS queries;  A mid-sized project with ~100,000 visitors may consume 10–20M DNS queries; High-traffic services or apps often exceed 100M+ queries.
