New caching options

We regularly add new features for more convenient caching management.

In September, 3 new features appeared in the control panel: request headers, redirect HTTP to HTTPS, and selective caching.

In October, we introduced the Cache sharding feature.

Now, at the request of our customers, we have updated the CDN and browser caching options.

CDN caching

This option allows you to set up the time of storing content in the CDN servers’ cache. You will now also be able to configure caching time for specific response codes.

The updated option replaces two obsolete ones: Cache lifetime and Override origin caching parameters.

For more information on configuring this option, see the knowledge base article “CDN Caching”.

Browser caching

This option allows you to set up the time of caching files in the end-user’s browsers.

The updated option replaces the obsolete one: Override origin caching parameters.

For more information on configuring this option, see the knowledge base article “Browser Caching”.

How our customers use this option

They configure caching for playlists and HLS streaming chunks. The setup order and recommended values are specified in the article “HLS (HTTP Live Streaming)”.

They cache the 404 page to protect the origin against void requests for outdated chunks (for streaming) or deleted files:

The 301 page is cached longer than the 200 one because redirection settings change less frequently:

They restrict caching of the 301 page, so that in case of redirection the request is always sent to the origin for a new version of a file:
