Broadening Horizons: Gcore’s Latest Edge Network Expansion

We are thrilled to announce the latest expansion of our Edge Network with the addition of three new points of presence (PoPs) in Brussels (Belgium,) Helsinki (Finland,) and Phnom Penh (Cambodia.) These new locations contribute to our ongoing mission to deliver superior internet connectivity with minimal latency across the globe.

Brussels, as the de facto capital of the European Union, plays a crucial role in international affairs and digital connectivity. There were over 11 million internet users in Belgium at the start of 2023, with internet penetration at 94.5% and growing steadily. Combined with the presence of major brands of international companies in Belgium, this new point of presence enhances a digital powerhouse at the heart of Europe.

Our new PoP here is not just an addition to our network but a critical step in bolstering internet efficiency across Europe. Since its launch, we have observed a significant improvement in network performance. This is evidenced by the throughput figures: since the deployment of the new PoP, it has leveled off with competitors and even doubled it.

Helsinki, Finland: Propelling Digital Excellence in the North

Helsinki is a city known for its technological innovation and high internet penetration, yet our new PoP marks a further significant enhancement in digital connectivity. Finland remains a European digital economy leader and boasts a number of mobile connections equivalent to over 170% of its total population.

The introduction of the new PoP aligns with Finland’s progressive digital agenda, and bringing content closer to the user has clearly had an impact: since PoP’s deployment on October 10, local internet users have experienced a massive decrease in latency with a solid RTT of 34.8 ms, cementing Gcore position as a leading content delivery network in the region.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: Entering a New Era of Digital Connectivity

The launch of our PoP in Phnom Penh represents a milestone in our expansion into Southeast Asia. Cambodia’s rapidly growing internet user base currently stands at 67% or 714,000 users, up almost 7% on last year. We’re proud to be part of Cambodia’s digital explosion.

This new PoP has already made a significant impact, improving response times and enhanced reliability. Since our PoP launch in October 2023, the average RTT (round-trip time) has reduced from ~38 ms to less than 5 ms, and Gcore’s network throughput has started to exceed that of our competitors.
